Last Page from GDT Sarah Groen

Here is my final page for ‘Crazy Monday‘ kits. I used the current sketch over at ‘Sketchabilities’ as the basis for this page. I took the photos last weekend when my little son Benji did his first ever jazz dance exam. He wasn’t a bit nervous (as you an see) and enjoyed showing me his ‘air guitar’ technique for his main dance!!!
I can honestly say that I have used up every scrap of paper from the kit but I still have some embellishments left for future pages 🙂 I sprayed my background cardstock  through a Tim Holtz sunburst mask and added some blotches and drops.  Once again I piled up left over pieces of patterned paper and vellum to mat my photos.
Sarah Groen 4-3
I created a title using a miscellaneous collection of die-cut letters from the kit and mini-alphas that I had in my stash. I mounted them all onto a tag from the ‘Crate Paper’ miscellany bag. I painted the word ‘today’ from the ‘Studio Calico’ wood veneers with black distress paint then drew on faux stitching with a white gel pen.
Finally I hand wrote my story onto a journalling card and added a little stamping to complete the page.

I hope that I have managed to inspire you to have a look at the awesome ‘Crazy Monday‘ kits – they really are crammed full of goodies – easily enough for 3 or 4 layouts (more if you don’t layer elements quite as much as I do!).
A huge thanks to you Annelie for the opportunity to guest design for you this month!

More Inspiration from Sarah

Sarah Groen 3-1

Here is the third page that I have done using Annelie Maddock’s awesome August ‘Crazy Monday’ kit – Stars & Words & Things.

I really love the look of the triangle Kraft paper and used it as my background – with a few ink splatters and stamps added for extra interest.
Again I used the ephemera pack to build up clusters of interesting elements, both in the corners of my page and around my photo. This really is a quick and easy way to pull a page together. All the mixing and matching has been already done – all you have to do is choose what you want to put on your page and where 🙂
Sarah Groen 3-2
I used a journaling card from the ephemera kit to hold my story. I changed the sentiment on it to match my page. I often cover irrelevant pre-printed words or phrases with mini-alphas or other stickers/die-cuts to personalise tags to match my page.
Sarah Groen 3-3
I made my title using a combination of elements. The word ‘dreams’ was cut from patterned paper. I used gold thickers washed with white distress paint to spell ‘true’ and the cool wood ampersand was coloured with a gelato pen.
Thanks for sharing Sarah!

Inspiration from Sarah

Here is the second page that I have created using the awesome ‘Crazy Monday’ August kit.
Sarah Groen 2-1
I had so much fun adding layer after layer of gorgeous embellishments from the ‘Crate Paper’ ephemera pack in the kit to mat my photo. These elements truly are gorgeous and co-ordinate so well together!I love this photo of my youngest kiddies having a blast together at the local playground. They look so happy. I chose a primarily yellow and blue colour scheme to reflect the mood of the day. The cute cloud paper, which I sprayed with yellow ink using a sunburst mask, made a perfect background for the page. I journaled on a tag which I mounted on top of this cute clip-board die-cut (both also from the ephemera bag). The word ‘laughter’ was cut from another sheet of patterned paper.

I added a large title spread along the bottom of the photo block. I used the gold ‘Thickers’ from the kit. When I had adhered them to my page the colour was a little too bright for the look I was wanting to create so I swiped a little white distress paint over the top of each letter to tone down the glitz a little. This is a great way to lighten the colour of most elements and make them blend into the page a little better.Sarah Groen 2-3

I completed the page with a little stamping and inking.

Thanks so much for taking the time to view my page today – and once again, I hope that I have inspired you to try out this awesome kit for yourself! ‘

Please Welcome our August GDT

I am so excited to be guest designing for  ‘Crazy Monday Kits’ (thanks so much for inviting me Annelie). I live in Auckland NZ with my hubby of more than 20 years (Mark) and my 6 gorgeous kids (who range in age from 5 to 23). I have 4 boys Chris 23, Jaime 21, Adam 20 and our ‘baby’ Benji 5 and two daughters, Natalie 17 and Sophie-Kate 9. I am a stay at home mum and since I discovered scrapbooking I have been a hopeless addict. I am currently on the design teams for 2Crafty chipboard, CSI, Stuck? sketches, Scrap the Boys and 1,2,3,Challenge blog. I have been published many times both in NZ and overseas I am really looking forward to sharing my work with you and hope that I can inspire you a little along the way.

We are very excited to have Sarah as our GDT for August. Here is a look at her first page created with our kit “Stars & Words & Things”:

And Sarah’s description:

I am so excited to get to guest design for Crazy Monday using this amazing kit!
I fell in love with the background paper as soon as I opened up the box. Usually I go for white card stock backgrounds but this time I was inspired to try something a little different.
 Sarah Groen 1-3
Because the paper is so bold and bright I needed a close-focus, eye-catching photo to take centre stage. I also felt that the paper needed some black (stamping and inking) to add depth and draw more attention to the photo. A little black is often all that is needed to ‘liven up’ a ‘flat’ page.
I matted my photo on grey card stock that I ran through my paper crimper to give it a ‘corrugated’ look and to further lift up and separate my photo from the page. I layered all my favourite papers from the kit underneath my photo and added die-cuts and tags from the awesome Crate Paper ‘ephemera’ pack (my absolute favourite part of the kit).
Sarah Groen 1-4
I used the word ‘Shine’ from the Studio Calico wood veneer pack as my title. I was planning to paint it but when I laid it on my page I loved the look of the ‘raw’ chipboard and settled on leaving it natural.
Sarah Groen 1-2
A couple of buttons and a few lengths of bakers twine to thread through my tags and the page was finished.
Thanks for looking at my page today. I hope that I have managed to inspire you a little – have a great day!
